Broker Market-Data Migration: An Illustrative Cutover

Illustrative scenario — not a report of a named client deployment. A broker is considering a new market-data source. The blueprint treats the change as a controlled instrument migration so the team can identify differences before its clients depend on the new stream.

Preserve the meaning of each instrument

Capture the existing source and destination identifiers, specifications and session assumptions. Record the client-facing symbols and the tools or reports that depend on them. Then compare the proposed source against that baseline, including any unavailable instruments or differing fields.

Price differences should be investigated in context. A different contract definition, timing convention or session can explain a difference without proving a defective source. Resolve the instrument identity before changing server configuration to make two values appear closer.

Use a mapping approval sheet

Mapping itemMigration questionRelease evidence
IdentifierDoes the new source represent the intended contract?Approved source-to-destination mapping
SpecificationWhich relevant fields differ?Reviewed differences and authorised changes
SessionWhen are updates expected?Observed transition and monitoring behaviour
FallbackHow can the team return to an approved stream?Tested change and operator instructions

Confirm the intended use and rights with the data source. Technical access to an endpoint does not establish permission for every trading, display or redistribution use.

Observe before switching

  1. Choose a representative subset instead of changing the full catalogue at once.
  2. Observe the new stream through a controlled comparison path.
  3. Review freshness, gaps and session transitions with the operating team.
  4. Approve a staged release with a named decision owner and return criteria.

Where the two feeds cannot be observed simultaneously, make the limitation explicit and design an alternative rehearsal with the involved providers. Avoid describing an unperformed comparison as a completed validation.

Close the migration with an operating record

Update the active-source inventory, symbol mapping and alert ownership after release. Preserve the previous approved configuration for the agreed period and record exceptions needing further review. A successful connection is the beginning of the operating check, not the end.

Use MT4 price-feed mapping or MT5 price-feed integration for the platform-specific scope. The MT4 White Label or MT5 White Label arrangement should identify who has authority to approve and apply the change.
